Cunningham Asserts that Markey Violated the Constitution

After Congressman Markey voted yes to the “Billionaire Bailout,” congressional candidate John Cunningham challenges Markey to show constitutionality or step down immediately

Revere, MA – With the passage of the $750 billion bailout in the House today, John Cunningham, Republican candidate for Congress, condemns the vote as unconstitutional and calls for his opponent, Ed Markey, to step down from office.

“Ed Markey voted today for a ‘Billionaire Bailout’ which is unfair, economically unsound, and overtly unconstitutional,” said Cunningham. “I’m a small businessman. If I make bad business decisions, do you think they’re going to bail me out? No, you have to be rich to get money from Congress. It’s blatantly unfair.”

“It will not solve our economic woes,” he continued. “Government intervention in the market created this mess, and more intervention will only make it worse. The bailout will continue to send money to less productive enterprises that are draining our economy. It will only delay and inhibit a much needed market reorganization towards more productive areas.”

“It is legalized theft, pure and simple,” Cunningham asserted. “I challenge Ed Markey to show his constituents where the Constitution gives Congress the power to take from the taxpayer to give to big business, or to step down immediately. If Markey will not own up to his blunder, I call on his constituents to vote him out of office in November.”
